It has an extra pad that is removable and will add extra room as grows. This is just til she is large enough for back seat booster seat like her sisters. My husband has an FJ Cruiser and we connected the straps to the emergency brake and our seatbelts. It's pretty sturdy and it's difficult for our dogs to turn around in, which reassures me that they're secure. Our dogs are comfortable inside and choose to sleep in the carrier when it is on the floor at home! One of my dogs needs to see out the window though, so I ended up putting the carrier on my lap with both of my 6lb Chihuahuas inside. Honestly, it was really comfortable and we plan to use the carrier for all our car rides on the future!
