She just layers it underneath with either sweaters or down jackets, depending on the temperature. The hood was a bit large but she solved that by either wearing a scarf around it or a headband to it secure it or a heavy duty winter helmet hat underneath it.

Its also great for sitting by a fire in the evening as it functions a bit like a throw blanket over your legs while you are sitting. The only downside is it is huge and if you have a smaller camper or tent, and like to keep it unstuffed, it takes up quite a bit of real estate. On the flip side, the dog loves sleeping on it. I got orange, and probably look like a killer tomato wandering around in it, but I love it anyway.
