The other one had no protective packaging; just a thin plastic sleeve and not surprisingly was broken upon arrival. My daughter loves this lamp. The fiber optic strings are pretty as well as the "crystals" in the bottom. You're not getting a super high quality item, but for the price, it's perfect.
