I thought that it might not cook as well because it doesn't have a cover, but I've cooked sausages, bacon-wrapped shrimp skewers, asparagus, and some brown sugar pineapple on it without a problem. I also used it without the top plate to cook s'mores the other day and it was great. Again, absolutely love this little grill. I do use a grill mat though, which I highly recommend. It keeps all the grease and everything from dripping inside and makes it super easy to clean up.
