The trunk of this tree is covered with a shiny silver foil. The branches are wire. I was disappointed when I took it from the box BUT when I opened all the little branches and plugged it in, it is gorgeous. Each branch looks like a small fireworks, sparkling and glittery. I hung very tiny sparkly stars on it - anything larger would either be too heavy or too much. This tree can easily be used with no ornaments. Everyone who has seen it is amazed with how beautiful it is when plugged in. You will need about an hour to unwrap each stem - they are twisted to each other, but time well spent! I bought the six foot silver with silver. Barely six foot tall - might have preferred the taller one as the stems are so delicate it doesn't look like six feet in height. Well worth the money - should last for years of use!
