   A great find and an excellent deal. Saw the 500 model in local home builder store and came home to do some research. In the past had bought new drill bits when they got dull, an expensive undertaking over the years. Now can dress up and resharpen tips in a few minutes. Instructions are in depth, but had to watch you videos to see what they were writing about in the manual. Recommend getting the 100 grit wheel if you need to work on really messed up bits. The included grinding wheel is great for simple resharpens, but take some time if the tip is chipped, broken or malformed. A great buy if used as the instructions say.

   I consider myself a skilled machinist with a large collection of drills of all types, but I use high speed steel drills most of the time for the very reason that they are easy to sharpen and hold a good point. The DrillDoctor offers a fast way to bring alll your drills back into shape with minimum fuss. There is a learning curve, but once you master it, you can turn out excellent drills. It is best to practice on all those old drills you threw in a draw before you work on your good set of drills. Sure one could sharpen their drills on a grinding wheel, but the DrillDoctor method offers precision with ease.

   I have over 200 drill bits that I've collected over the years. Many were ones my father had. He tended to throw the dull ones in a box so he could sharpen them someday. He had a device that used sand or something crazy that blew around in a small bag and that supposedly sharpened the bits. It never worked very well. I keep buying bits, then they get dull and I throw them in that box and buy more. Drill bits are getting expensive so I thought even though this device is expensive for its purpose and I would not need it much if it did work and all my bits were sharpened, I still wanted to see what it could do. I was pleasantly surprised!

   I have hundreds of dollars in quality drill bits, so it makes perfect sense to have a quality drill bit sharpener. I’ve always sharpened my bits by hand, on the bench grinder, but that requires a very good stone wheel, lots of light, and now that I’m 50, a very good pair of magnifiers, so I finally broke down and bought the this sharpener. I watched a video from Drill Doctor on UTube, before my sharpener arrived. I pulled it out of the box, plugged it in, and immediately sharpened a bit I had burned out while drilling some stainless steel bar stock. The bit is now like new. Love it.

   I suggest practicing on garbage bits first, experimenting with the angles both when you set the depth and then when you set the angle on the final, vertical step. Start with light pressure. You have to be mindful of the cam action when you do the sharpening and keep the chuck in contact with the pin on the body of the device. This will only make sense when you read the directions, watch the video and then get to sharpening.

I fully recommend the this sharpener because of it's greater versatility. It will sharpen all your bits and do it correctly. You do no have to possess any special skill to sharpen your bits like a professional, split points as well. 118 degrees and greater, 135 split points, masonry , etc. The enclosed video is specific and easy to understand. You will be amazed at how easy it is to achieve professional results. I have a lot of drill bits and now all of them are sharp and cut great.

   I am a previous owner of a drill doctor. My drill doctor lasted eight years and I was the base model... I’ve sharpened my bit dozens of times and every time I sharpen them they are restored to a original factory point... I haven’t bought drill bits since the purchase of my first drill doctor. And now I have a version better then the original one I owned... so if I do buy any more drill bits it’ll be because I just wanted to use the othe capabilities of this upgraded model I now find in my possession... thanks to my drill doctor I’ve saved hundreds if not thousands in the fact I haven’t bought bits in years by comparison to my friends who buy them on basically a weekly basis...

Though that success was not effortless and as you would know, that didn't come without a great amount of trial and error. This Drill Doctor makes it much easier to do, both for mechanics and newbies, no re-grinding/trial and error when bits wear down, the cut points and angles change plus, they cut the first time and much better.

   I purchased the this sharpener and started using it right out of the box. I watched a few videos before it arrived and thought I was ready to get started. I don't recommend that. Wait to watch the videos until you have the sharpener unboxed. The process will make more sense. I have sharpened both 118 and 135 degree bits of all sizes. Most of them took less than a minute to go from dull to like new again! Much better than buying a new bit or set of bits. I whish I would have bought this years ago. I would have saved so much money. It is very easy to use and once you get the hang of it, I am sure you'll be very happy.
